rest a little bit about the Rooney rule. When I was hiring the next team physician after Craig Bennett left, who went to the Ravens, I walked into Dan Rooney, who was my dear friend, and I said, Mr. Rooney, I said, would it be all right to hire a woman as my assistant? Because they thought I was going to hire someone else. And Dan said, why? I said, just what Eddie said. I said, because she's the best person for the job. And for 11 years, she was my partner in crime, and we had a lot of fun. OK, now it's my great pleasure to introduce Michael Ciccotti, our next president. So in the beginnings, he was born in November 3, 1960, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He started talking at a very early age. As you can see, he does such a good job. In the beginnings, he was born to Mary and Angelo, the fourth of five children. They had a great relationship. They owned Ciccotti's Jewel Box Jewelers on Wyoming Avenue in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Recently, it just closed. He was the early captain. So he already was in charge at a very early age, as you can see. His siblings are Bill and Kathy, Angelo was Sue, Michelle and Rob, and Tom and Jed. Went to high school at Scranton Preparatory High School in 1978. He started very early in sports. Of course, he was the valedictorian summa cum laude, the Robin Larkin Award for the most outstanding student-athlete. Well, then he goes to Holy Cross. And of course, in 1982, he's summa cum laude, salutatorian, Presidential Service Award for Outstanding Achievement. Well, that's when Michael takes up his lifetime love of running at Holy Cross. He goes to my alma mater, Georgetown Medical School in Washington, DC, where he is once again summa cum laude, AOA Medical Honor Society, and commencement address. So let's go for the track record here. He's valedictorian summa cum laude. He gives the commencement speech at every one of them, high school, college, and medical school. So in the vernacular of horse racing, that's known as the Triple Crown. In 1984, he marries Patty, a very wise decision. He has four children, Michael, Matthew, Emily, and Carolyn. Well, the apple doesn't fall very far from the tree. Michael's a 35-year-old orthopedic surgeon following his father's footstep. Matthew's a 33-year-old real estate developer in LA. Emily's a 29-year-old marketing director for Fallin in Boston. Carolyn's a 27-year-old head of marketing for Cocoju in New York City. So post-gradually, he goes back to Thomas Jefferson University, where he goes to general surgery residency and then his orthopedic surgical residency in Philadelphia. He then goes to Kerlin-Jobe from 91 to 92 at Sentinel Hospital and the University of Southern California. Out there, he is trained by what I consider at the time the best orthopedic sports medicine people in the country because I trained there also. Bob Kerlin, Frank Jobe, Lou Yoakam, Steve Lombardo, our past president, Clarence Shields, and Ralph Gambardella. It is now run by our 47th president, Neil Ellitrage. His mentors, the surgeon was Frank Jobe. A lot of us, he was our mentor. The diagnostician, Bob Kerlin. Jimmy Tabone had a big role in his life as he was the fellowship director. And Clarence Shields, the president of the AOSSM in 2001, also was a big influence. When he went back to Rothman, it was Richard Rothman who was his mentor. At Rothman, as you can tell from Michael, he's pretty busy. He has a hand in every major sports in the city and he has a big hand in Major League Baseball's Physician Society. But he is the head team physician for the Philadelphia Phillies. Faculty appointments, he's a professor of orthopedic surgery at Sydney Kimmel Medical College and Thomas Jefferson. He's a professor of orthopedics at Rothman and Jefferson. He's chief division of surgery, division, excuse me, of sports medicine at the Department of Orthopedics at Thomas Jefferson University. He's the director of orthopedics and sports medicine education and fellowship program at Thomas Jefferson. You got to know Mike speak, okay? If you're going to talk to him, you got to know these words. So, Mike, the terms he likes which you must know to talk to him are, he is always sculpting something. Everything must dovetail into something else. He always must go down to a granular level. Always, his answer to your question is always, no doubt. Then, when he really must end it up, he's codifying the topic. Then, finally, he will crystallize it for you. That's Mike speak. So, then I said, well, what about any questionable past history? You know, everybody's got to, like Neil and I, you could do a lot on us, but so I looked at Mike. I said, I asked his partners for some dirt on him, none of them had any. Then, his medical school classmates, nothing. I asked his fellowship partners, nada. I asked my fellow ASM board members, a zero. So, then I got creative. I asked my police, FBI, secret service agent patients to do multiple background checks, all of them, all right? And guess what? He's the last Boy Scout. Nothing. But I finally got him. I finally got the goods on him. He likes ice cream. All right, so let's talk about what he's done for us. These are all the board members, the committees, and everything he's done for the AOSSM, just outstanding. All right, so this is the time commitment Mr. President has made to this society, which is truly amazing. Let's talk about his CV. It's only 121 pages long. He's done 119 peer-reviewed papers, 16 currently in review, 36 book chapters, 127 AOSSM, AANA, ASES, ISSACAS presentations, 69 AAOS presentations, 273 national presentations, 42 international presentations, 159 regional presentations. I'm getting tired. 61 educational course lectureships, 96 published abstracts, 82 exhibitions, posters, videotapes, and internet, and 10 grants. All right, can you all say work ethic? All right, so with that, I'd like to present to you Michael G. Ciccotti, MD, our 49th president of the AOSSM. Thank you.
