AJSM Webinar Series - September 2022: Sideline Injury and Emergencies Management
Course Information

The American Journal of Sports Medicine is proud to present the next installment in the American Journal of Sports Medicine Webinar series: Sideline Injury and Emergencies Management. The recorded webinar aired on September 19, 2022 and discusses common American football injuries and their assessment and management on the sideline.  Injuries discussed range from sprains/strains to fractures and dislocations and their implications on return to play. Moderator: Robert Westermann, MD, and panelists Kurt Spindler, MD, Lutul Farrow, MD, and T. Sean Lynch, MD, share their knowledge and experience caring for athletes on the field after an injury.

The aim of the webinar is to update the viewers on current best practices for common injury and medical issues occurring in American football.  Topics include medical emergencies that span cervical spine, airway, and cardiac and abdominal injuries that should be recognized and managed promptly and properly.  Further, we review the evaluation of common musculoskeletal injuries on the sideline and discuss potential return to play consideration.  We also review best practices for concussion evaluation and management as well as medical-legal issues in covering sports outside the clinic and/or hospital setting.
