IC 306: Masterclass in Multi-ligamentous Knee Injuries: Expert Perspectives

Course Description:

Join our expert panel for an intensive masterclass on Multi-ligamentous Knee Injuries (MLKI) as we cover a comprehensive approach to managing these complex cases. The initial approach will focus on assessment, preoperative workup, and surgical timing, including when to use external fixators versus braces, low versus high-velocity injuries, and considerations for vascular or peroneal nerve injury. An evidence-based perspective on current controversies will discuss surgical techniques for MLKI, along with rehabilitation strategies and tips to avoid tunnel convergence. Technical pearls and tips for successful MLKI reconstruction will be provided, covering patient positioning, surgical techniques, radiographic landmarks, and tensioning sequence. Additionally, we will discuss high-grade MCL injuries and the latest insights from relevant trials.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
  • Understand preoperative assessment for MLKI injuries, including how to manage concomitant neurovascular injury.
  • Discuss surgical technique considerations, including graft choice and surgical timing.
  • Appreciate how to use radiographic landmarks to achieve proper tunnel position.
  • Learn how best to manage medial collateral ligament injuries in the setting of MLKI.
  • Discover how to approach the failed MLKI, including common causes for failure and when to consider osteotomy.

In this masterclass, we will delve into the complexities of MLKI with a focus on evidence-based approaches and surgical techniques. Leading experts will share their insights and strategies for successfully managing these challenging injuries.
