Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) is a joint disorder that most commonly affects the knee joint. Treatment options are still sometimes controversial regarding indications for surgery, timing of surgery, and choice of procedure, and recommendations may vary regarding physical activity restrictions and the timing of return to sports. We have gathered a world-class faculty to weigh in on this topic, including Drs. Justin W. Arner, Minder S. Kocher, Theodore J. Ganley, and Marc Tompkins.

The webinar aims to provide the latest comprehensive knowledge of this disease, from epidemiology, etiology, and imaging diagnosis to indications and treatment methods. The American Journal of Sports Medicine and cohost PRiSM invite you to join our faculty of experts, led by moderator Ryuichiro Akagi, in their discussion.

Dr. Ryuichiro Akagi is Director of the Knee Surgery and Sports Medicine Center, Oyumino Central Hospital, Chiba, Japan. He has served as the team doctor for the Japanese youth national soccer team and is currently the team doctor for the Japanese beach soccer national team. 



Dr. Justin Arner is an orthopaedic sports medicine surgeon at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the US Ski and Snowboard Team.
 



Dr. Mininder Kocher is the Chief of the Division of Sports Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, O’Donnell Family Endowed Chair, and Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School. He is an expert in pediatric orthopaedics, sports medicine, and clinical epidemiology.
 


Dr. Marc Tompkins is an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon and Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota and a faculty for the orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at TRIA Orthopedic Center. Clinical interests for Dr. Tompkins are in complex reconstructive and joint preservation surgery in the knee and shoulder.  In addition to an adult practice, he is the co-director of the pediatric sports medicine program at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. Areas of research focus are on patellofemoral surgery, chondral and meniscal pathology, complex ligamentous reconstruction, and rehabilitation. 



Dr. Theodore "Ted" Ganley is the Sports Medicine Director at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Bisignano Family Distinguished Endowed Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania supporting the Division of Orthopedic Surgery and specifically the clinical, research, and outreach sports initiatives which continue to grow. Dr. Ganley's clinical focus includes sports injures of all kinds and trauma care. He is one of a small group of surgeons in the country with a primary focus on sports and trauma in the young athlete.
