All You Need to Know About Meniscus Preservation

 

Course Description:

This course will review key components of meniscal repair and emphasize the importance of meniscus preservation. Indications for meniscus repair versus partial meniscectomy will be discussed. Techniques for repair of complex meniscal tears, including all-inside, inside-out, and outside-in repair, will be examined in a case-based discussion along with unique advantages, disadvantages, and indications for each. Finally, complications of meniscus preservation procedures and prevention with meniscal centralization and meniscus allograft transplantation will also be discussed.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion of this course, the participant will have better understanding of the role of the meniscus in knee joint health and the importance of meniscus preservation for joint longevity.
  • The participant will also understand indications for unique meniscus repair and preservation techniques, specifically relating to the treatment of complex meniscus tears.
  • The participant will have a stronger understanding of procedures that can prolong the success of the meniscus, including meniscus allograft transplantation and meniscus centralization.
