Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

Describe the effect of failed marrow stimulation (MST) surgery on subsequent autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) in the knee joint.
Discuss the reasons for the inferior outcomes demonstrated when ACI is used as a salvage procedure after failed MST.
Describe the appropriate indications and contraindications for microfracture of focal chondral defects of the knee joint.
