IC 205: Technical Tips and Tricks for Knee Osteotomy     

Course Description:

This course will review knee malalignment with special focus on coronal plane and sagittal plane alignment. Indications for proximal tibia osteotomies and distal femur osteotomies will be discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of closing wedge and opening wedge osteotomies will be examined in a case-based discussion with special attention to the tibial slope and associated procedure (ACL, cartilage surgeries, meniscus transplant, etc.). Surgical techniques for osteotomies will be presented in a case-based format.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course the participant will: 
  • Have a better understanding of treating knee arthritis as it relates to coronal plane malalignment.
  • Understand the issues related to tibial slope, specifically pertaining to the treatment of chronic ligament deficient knees and the triple varus knee.
  • Have a better understanding of the surgical technique for high tibial osteotomy and distal femur osteotomy.
