The American Journal of Sports Medicine is proud to present the next installment in the American Journal of Sports Medicine Webinar series: Quadriceps Tendon Autograft ACL Reconstruction – Global Perspectives. Clinical and research interest in the use of quadriceps tendon autograft for ACL reconstruction surgery has gained significant traction globally. This webinar will bring together global leaders in both the use and study of this graft to provide us with a truly global picture of the best current indications for use and a critical appraisal of key literature from the last 10 years. Moderator: David Wasserstein, MD, MSc, and panelists Martin Lind, MD, PhD, Volker Musahl, MD, Christian Fink, MD, and Peter B. MacDonald MD FRCS, will share their knowledge and experience.

FACULTY

David Wasserstein, MD, MSc, is a sports medicine and trauma surgeon practicing at Sunnybrook in Toronto, ON and specializing in knee reconstruction. His academic practice focuses on clinical outcomes and biomechanics and has been augmented by Fellowship training in Toronto and at Vanderbilt University. 


Martin Lind, MD, PhD, is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports traumatology and sports medicine at Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark. He is presently a Professor of Orthopedics and Sports traumatology Aarhus University. His research interests include cartilage restoration, knee ligament reconstruction, patellofemoral disorders, meniscus disorders and sports traumatology epidemiology


Volker Musahl, MD, is Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh, Chief of Sports Medicine at the UPMC Freddie Fu Sports Medicine Center, Program Director of the Sports Medicine fellowship program, and associate head team physician for the University of Pittsburgh Football team.

Christian Fink, MD, is a specialist in orthopedic surgery and sports traumatology at Gelenkpunkt – Sports and Joint Surgery Innsbruck, Austria and head of the Research Unit for Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Injury prevention (OSMI) at the Private University UMIT, Hall.  Professor Fink's main interests in orthopaedics are knee ligament surgery, acute extremity trauma, and degenerative knee surgery.


Peter B. MacDonald, MD, FRCS Dip Sports Med is a Professor at the Section of Orthopaedics, University of Manitoba and Site Medical and Surgical Lead at Pan am Clinic. He is President of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and head team physician for the Winnipeg Jets (NHL) and Head Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (CFL).  He is a member of the Executive Committee for the NHL team Physicians Society.  

 


LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Describe the current clinical indications for use of quadriceps tendon autograft in ACL reconstruction surgery
  2. Explain recent evidence surrounding quadriceps tendon autograft outcomes from cohort studies, comparative trials and in registries
  3. Compare the relative risks and benefits of utilizing quadriceps tendon autograft compared to other graft choices in ACL reconstruction surgery
