Research Showcase Webinar
View the third AOSSM Research Showcase Webinar! This webinar series showcases previous winners of AOSSM Research Grants. Alvin Su, MD, PhD moderates, and Cecilia Pascual-Garrido, MD, PhD presents “My AOSSM Grant Award Experience and My Journey to Become an Independent Principal Investigator.” This offering is available on-demand for you to view at your convenience.
In this webinar, Dr. Pascual-Garrido discusses her research journey from tissue engineering and cartilage regeneration to her current focus on epigenetics, hip osteoarthritis, and hip preservation. Her basic science findings in animal models are presented, as are her current research results in a natural human model of pre-osteoarthritis in the hip. Finally, Dr. Pascual-Garrido highlights research lessons learned specific to methodology, multidisciplinary collaboration, and mentoring.

Cecilia Pascual-Garrido, MD, PhD
Associate Professor, Adult Reconstruction-Adolescent and Young Adult Hip Service
Department of Orthopaedic Surgery
Washington University School of Medicine
Dr. Pascual-Garrido is a dedicated surgeon and researcher who also has experience serving as a team physician. Specific to her research endeavors, she has a broad background in basic sciences and clinical orthopedics research with specific focus in hip preservation, cartilage regeneration, and biologics treatments. Over the last ten years, she has studied cartilage in depth with special focus in regeneration, prevention of osteoarthritis and new cell therapies. She has established a collaborative cartilage research team involving veterinarians, biochemists, and PhD scientist. She is working on identifying molecular pathways in the pre-arthritic hip including FAI and hip dysplasia. Finally, she is also working in the tissue engineering lab trying to improve repair of cartilage lesions. Dr. Pascual-Garrido is a former winner of the AOSSM-SANOFI Osteoarthritis Grant.
