Team Physician Series
Sideline Emergencies IV: Non-Musculoskeletal Conditions in Sport
Course Overview: Not every sideline emergency is an orthopedic injury. Heat illness, hypoglycemia, asthma/EIB, exertional chest pain, and infectious disease decisions can turn quickly. This demands clear leadership. This module is built for sports physicians and athletic trainers who need to read the scene fast, apply evidence-based protocols, and escalate care without hesitation. Through interactive, scenario-based learning, you’ll practice the skills that prevent crises before they start and manage them decisively when they do.
Learning Objectives:
Make the Most of This Course
This course focuses on what matters in the moment. Built with expert insight and real-world scenarios, it prepares you to standardize policies, sharpen recognition, and lead confidently across sports and venues.
How This Course Prepares You
Know when and how to take immediate action: Use Red/Yellow/Green escalation rules to make the call.
Assess swiftly and accurately: Distinguish EIB from VCD/EILO; identify RED-S patterns; spot cardiac red flags.
Follow best-practice protocols: “Cool first, transport second” for EHS; glucagon-first approach for severe hypoglycemia; time-based RTP for mono.
Deliver clear instructions under pressure: Enforce written, rehearsed EAPs for lightning and diabetes; align roles with a common playbook.
Practice fast, informed decisions: Interactive cases, audio/video diagnostics, and rapid-fire drills build muscle memory for the sideline.
Please Note: Participants can expect to complete the module in 1 to 2 hours, depending on their pace. They may start, stop, and return to the module at their convenience. The Team Physician Series does not include CME credit.
