IC 202: “Get Me Back in the Game”: A Case-Based Roundtable Discussion on Management of Acute Athletic Shoulder Injuries

Course Description:

This ICL will involve an engaging case-based discussion of common shoulder injuries sustained by athletes. Faculty will present short, concise cases and there will be ample time for roundtable discussion to tease out salient points related to appropriate acute and definitive management of in-season injuries. Cases will cover shoulder injuries sustained by both contact and overhead athletes and highlight the nuances in caring for these different types of athletes. Following the case presentation and discussion, each table will summarize their main takeaway points, so everyone in attendance can learn from the discussion at each table.

Learning Objectives:

• Discuss the decision-making process for common shoulder injuries in athletes.
• Understand the benefit of using different techniques to manage shoulder instability, rotator cuff tears, and AC/SC joint injuries.
• Determine ways to optimize return to play and decrease the risk of complications following operative management of shoulder injuries in athletes.
