This course includes the recording of a live Instructional Course from the 2025 AOSSM Annual Meeting.IC 10-2025 Sideline Decision Making One Makes in the Heat of Battle on Game Day: Times are Changing! What Every Team Physician Should Know Now (CME)
Course Description:
On-site coverage of contact team sporting events and how we manage those injuries in the first 48 hours is vital to the success of team physicians. Who is out and who is in. What studies do we need to evaluate injuries, determine return to game play/practice and exactly at what time it can be done safely. We will cover both upper and lower extremity issues with a focus on those injuries that are commonly seen on "game day". We will also discuss what changes are happening within our workspace and how they may change what we do given the medical-legal climate of NIL. This is the type of ICL that is hard to find in a textbook. Only years of experience of on-site coverage do you learn this specific skill set. In detail, the panel will discuss the actual event, the first 24-48 hours post injury, and the first week of possible return to practice/play steps. What diagnosis can we not miss! If surgery is needed, what does return to play milestones are necessary.
Learning Objectives:
Be able to safely diagnose and manage gameday MSK injuries in the upper and lower extremity
Improve upon gameday decision making as a team physician
Devise a treatment plan after the injury for safe return to play/practice for that specific injury
Have discussions with athletes, parents, trainers, coaches and agents about exactly what the injury is and what realistic expectations are relative to risk vs benefits
