CC2022: Hip Dislocation and Subluxation in Athletes: A Systematic Review (August 2022)
Information
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
  • Explain that hip dislocations do occur in sports and potentially may have predisposing features of their hip and pelvis, including decreased acetabular anteversion and decreased acetabular posterior wall coverage, as well as cam FAI (as measured by an increased alpha angle)
  • Describe the importance of immediate reduction and then following up with neurovascular check and advanced imaging to assess for concentric reduction (CT) and MRI (osteonecrosis)
  • Predict the findings associated with posterior hip dislocation at the time of arthroscopy – including labral tears, ligamentum teres tears, and chondral injury, including loose bodies and damage to the peri-foveal femoral head.
