Dr. Jonathan F. Dickens is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Team Physician, and Fellowship Director and Duke Orthopaedics. Colonel Dickens serves in the United States Army Reserves as a Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). He is the past Chief of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at WRNMMC where he was the orthopaedic consultant to Office of the President of the United States and White House Medical Unit, Vice-Chair Department of Surgery USUHS, Professor of Surgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Director of Orthopaedic Research. Dr. Dickens has completed American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) North American Fellowship, the AOA American British Canadian Fellowship, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) ESSKA Travelling. He is recipient of the AOSSM Excellence in Research Award and the AAOS OREF Kappa Delta Ann Donner Vaughn Award.

Matthew T. Provencher, MD, MBA, CAPT MC USNR (Ret.) is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder, knee, and sports medicine at The Steadman Clinic and Co-Director of the Steadman Philippon Research Institute Sports Medicine Fellowship. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with highest honors in Electrical Engineering, he was a varsity oarsman and First-Team All-American. He earned his MD at Dartmouth Medical School (AOA) and completed his orthopaedic residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego, followed by a fellowship at Rush University.
Dr. Provencher is a prolific researcher with over 450 peer-reviewed publications, eight textbooks, and numerous national and international presentations. He has received major awards from AOSSM, AJSM, AAOS, and Arthroscopy, and secured over $12.8 million in competitive research funding, helping establish initiatives such as MOTION (Military Orthopaedic Tracking Injuries Network), MPOWR (Mobile Platform for Optimizing Warfighter Rehabilitation), and BISS (Balboa Instability Severity Index Scores). He serves on the Executive Steering Committee for the $42 million DHA MOTION project.
He served as Head Orthopaedic Team Physician for Navy SEAL Teams 1, 3, 5, and 7, Director of Sports Surgery at MGH, and Medical Director for the New England Patriots during their 2014 Super Bowl season. He has also cared for the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and U.S. Ski Team, and is a 2nd opinion orthopaedist for the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA.
Dr. Provencher has most recently been recognized with the 2025 AAOS Kappa Delta Award for shoulder instability research over 25 years and the 2025 AOSSM George D. Rovere Award for Education. He lives in Edwards, CO, with his wife and four children. |

Brett D. Owens, MD is a board-certified Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Surgeon. He practices adult and pediatric sports medicine surgery with a focus on shoulder and knee injuries. Dr. Owens is currently Professor and Vice-Chair, Chief of Sports Medicine in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Brown University Alpert Medical School. Dr. Owens is proud to serve as the 4th Editor-in-Chief of The American Journal of Sports Medicine since 2025.

Lance E. LeClere, MD, CAPT MC USNR is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Sports Medicine Surgical Fellowship Director, and Associate Sports Medicine Division Chief at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and Medical Director and Head Team Physician for the Nashville Predators Hockey Club. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Lance served 15 years on Active Duty in the Navy before transitioning to the Reserves and staring at Vanderbilt in 2021. From 2012 to 2015 he served as the Orthopaedic Consultant to the US Navy West Coast SEAL Teams and BUDs, was Director of Orthopaedic Research, and Assistant Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program Director at Naval Medical Center San Diego. From 2015 to 2021 he was stationed at the US Naval Academy and was the Head Team Physician for Naval Academy Varsity Athletics, as well as an Orthopaedic Consultant for the White House Medical Unit and the Attending Physician for the US Capitol.

Eiji Itoi, MD, PhD, has made significant contributions to the field of medicine, particularly in orthopedics and surgery. His research focuses on shoulder injuries, rehabilitation, and orthopedic surgical techniques.
Dr. Itoi’s work has been recognized with several prestigious honors, including the Neer Award for best research paper and the AOA International Traveling Fellowship. He has served as a visiting scientist at the Mayo Clinic and has held academic appointments ranging from assistant professor to professor at Akita University Hospital.
His research has been published in numerous respected peer-reviewed journals, reflecting his substantial impact on the study and treatment of orthopedic conditions, particularly those affecting the shoulder complex.

James P. Bradley, MD completed his undergraduate education from Pennsylvania State University where he was an All-American defensive back and captain for the football team and won the 1975 Dapper Dan College Football award. He briefly played for the Cincinnati Bengals before attending Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Bradley completed residency training at the University of Pittsburgh followed by a sports medicine fellowship at Kerlan Jobe. He then returned to Pennsylvania to practice.
Soon after starting his career, Dr. Bradley became the Head Team Orthopedic Surgeon for the Pittsburgh Steelers where he has been serving NFL players from all over the country for over 35 years. Additionally, his sports medicine expertise extends outside of football, treating a variety of professional, collegiate and high school athletes in PGA golf, baseball, basketball and soccer among others.
Dr. Bradley has served as Past President of the National Football League Physician Society, Herodicus Society and American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine. His academic and research contributions include 60 book chapters, 166 peer review articles, 416 guest lecturer presentations and 22 chairmanships garnering his recognition as a top researcher particularly in shoulder instability.
Dr. Bradley has been the recipient of many local and national awards including, the Revere Award, America’s Top Doctors, 59 Best Orthopedic Surgeons in America, Top Sports Medicine Specialist in the Pittsburgh Region and was recently inducted into the Western Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.

Justin W. Arner, MD is a double board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine doctor based in Pittsburgh, PA. He specializes in the surgical and non-surgical management of knee, shoulder, elbow, and hip injuries. Dr. Arner has been recognized as a Castle Connolly and Pittsburgh Magazine Top Doctor, representing the top 7% of doctors in the country. He is affiliated with UPMC St. Margaret and has been named the #1 orthopaedic surgeon in the UPMC system by Press Ganey Scores. Dr. Arner is also a physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the US Ski and Snowboard Team, traveling with athletes nationally and internationally. His expertise includes complex shoulder and knee arthroscopy, shoulder instability surgery, cartilage and meniscus surgery, elbow surgery, and sports hip injuries. Dr. Arner completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh and graduated medical school from West Virginia University. He has published over 100 articles and twenty book chapters and has been recognized nationally as one of the top 1% of orthopaedic surgery researchers. Dr. Arner is an active researcher and hosts a monthly podcast for the Arthroscopy Journal, which has the highest impact factor in orthopaedic sports medicine. He is involved in multiple orthopaedic societies as a committee chair and member.
