AOSSM Fellows Pretest 2024

The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine
Fellows Exam 2023-2024 (Pretest)

The AOSSM Fellows Exam is designed to help you identify strengths and weaknesses in your understanding of the clinical and practice management areas of orthopaedic sports medicine.

On March 20, 2003, the American Board of Medical Specialties approved a subspecialty certification in orthopaedic sports medicine to be administered by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The content of this self assessment was derived from eleven areas of orthopaedic sports medicine identified and provided by the ABOS about critical areas that will be covered in the subspecialty certificate in orthopaedic sports medicine examination. For more information about the subspecialty certificate in orthopaedic sports medicine, go to the ABOS website at

This self-assessment examination should prove valuable to any orthopaedic sports medicine fellow.

Upon completion of the Fellows Exam, participants should be able to:

  • Identify and assess orthopaedic sports medicine conditions.
  • Develop appropriate treatment, including surgery, rehabilitation, medical management, orthoses, and other therapeutic measures in sports medicine.
  • Apply critical concepts in sports medicine research.
  • Review and analyze specific issues unique to the orthopaedic sports medicine practitioner with the goal of identifying strategies to improve patient outcomes.

The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine has convened the Self-Assessment Committee to develop the questions of the exam. This Committee has followed a rigorous process based on the standards established by the National Board of Medical Examiners to develop a comprehensive self assessment and board review. Below is the list of reviewers (faculty) who reviewed already published Self-Assessment Exam questions for this fellows exam enduring material.

Participants will be asked to complete an evaluation of the Fellows Exam.

The AMA requires that all enduring materials include a minimum performance level that must be demonstrated in the assessment in order to successfully complete the activity for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
