Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I am Jim Bradley from the University of Pittsburgh and the present AOSSM president. I'm here to introduce the Kennedy Lectureship. This lectureship is named in honor of John C. Kennedy, MD, the legendary past president of the AOSSM. Basically, the Kennedy Lectureship is a virtual who's who of sports medicine throughout the years that have given this lecture. Our speaker today is Champ L. Baker, Jr., MD, team physician. The early years of Champ, he was born in Alexandria, Louisiana. He has an older sister Susie and a younger brother Rusty. His nickname in high school was Buddy. He played football and basketball in high school, in college at LSU where he played basketball also. Wisely, he married Sue Ann Owens, best thing he ever did. He has three children, Sarah who's in New York City, Kate in San Francisco, and his son Lee slash Champ, Jr., who did our fellowship at Pitt. He has seven grandchildren. He did his residency at the Letterman Army Medical Center. He had his fellowship at the Houston Clinic. His background, he's been the chairman of the Houston Clinic Foundation. He's been the president of multiple organizations including the Houston Clinic, the Georgia Orthopedic Society, Southern Orthopedic Society, Georgia Shoulder and Elbow Society, Eridicus, and the AOSSM. His many awards, he was awarded the Southern Orthopedic Award, the President's Challenge Award by the NATA, the Pioneer in Sports Medicine Award, the Houston Physician of the Year Award, the Columbus State Hall of Fame. He trained over a hundred sports medicine doctors and was the proud winner of the Revere Education Award from the AOSSM. These are Baker's Fun Facts. He's a big Willie Nelson fan. For some reason he has this association with rabbits which we can't figure out. He's never afraid to show his feminine side either. The Robert E. Leach Sports Medicine Leadership Award he won back in 2010, which is the highest award given by our society. He was awarded the AOSSM Hall of Fame in 2012. Being inducted into the Hall of Fame is the highest honor given to any society member. It is my pleasure to introduce our guest speaker for the Kennedy Lectureship, Champ Leroy Baker Jr.
