Pdf Summary
This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the outcomes of osteochondral autograft (OAT) and osteochondral allograft (OCA) transplantation for the treatment of symptomatic cartilage defects of the knee. The study found that both OAT and OCA resulted in favorable patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and graft survival rates at medium-term follow-up. There was no significant difference in PRO improvement or graft failure rates between the two techniques. Factors such as lesion size, patient age, sex, and number of plugs/grafts used did not significantly affect the comparison of outcomes between OAT and OCA. The study concludes that proper patient selection for either procedure is crucial to the success and long-term viability of the graft.
