Pdf Summary
This systematic review examined the incidence and outcomes of orthopedic sports injuries in the NBA and WNBA. Common injuries in the NBA included concussions, hand fractures, stress fractures, meniscal tears, and ACL tears. Achilles tendon ruptures, knee cartilage defects, and ACL injuries had significant effects on performance. Return to play after concussions took 3.5 to 5 weeks, while foot and ankle fractures required 9.8 to 16.4 weeks. The study emphasized the need for more high-quality research to better understand and prevent injuries in professional basketball.
