Pdf Summary
This systematic review and meta-analysis compared the outcomes of biceps tenodesis and superior labral anterior and posterior (SLAP) lesion repair for the treatment of SLAP lesions in overhead athletes. The study found that the results of biceps tenodesis were not inferior to SLAP repair in terms of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, rate of return to sport, rate of return to preinjury level of sport, and complication rate. However, the differences between the two procedures did not reach statistical significance. The study suggested that further high-level, randomized controlled studies are needed to confirm these findings. It should be noted that the sample size of the included studies was small and the data were heterogeneous, which may have affected the results. Additionally, the study highlighted the importance of functional outcomes, return to sport, and return to preinjury level of sport for overhead athletes. Overall, this study suggests that both biceps tenodesis and SLAP repair are viable surgical treatment options for SLAP lesions in overhead athletes.
