Pdf Summary
In this systematic review, the authors investigated the incidence of complications after surgical treatment of posterolateral corner (PLC) injuries of the knee. They analyzed data from 60 studies and found that the intraoperative complication rate during PLC reconstructions was low at 0.34%, while the postoperative complication rate was approximately 20%. The most common postoperative complication was arthrofibrosis. Other complications included infection, nerve injury, pain syndrome, and fracture. The overall failure rate of PLC structures repaired or reconstructed was 9.4%. The authors concluded that while the intraoperative complication rate is low, postoperative complications are common after surgical treatment of PLC injuries. They emphasized the importance of careful postoperative management to minimize complications and improve patient outcomes.
