Video Summary
Dr. Mihata from Japan presented a study on the long-term follow-up of arthroscopic superior capsular reconstruction (HCR) for irreparable rotator cuff tears. The study aimed to assess the functional outcome, graft survival rate, and progression of calf tear arthropathy over 10 years. 34 patients underwent arthroscopic HCR with a fascia-lateral autograft. The graft survival rate was 89% at 10 years, and accurate distance and active shoulder elevation showed good maintenance over time. The ACS score also improved and was maintained at 10 years. However, graft tear patients had poorer function. Acerboration and osteoarthritis increased in both shoulders at 10 years. Graft healing prevented catheter arthropathy progression. Overall, arthroscopic SEO was shown to restore function and relieve pain in irreparable rotator cuff tears.
