Video Summary
The video discusses the influence of the number of prior patellar dislocations on the outcome of isolated MPFL (medial patellofemoral ligament) reconstructions. The study found that patients with more than two prior dislocations had greater patellar instability and poorer patient-reported outcomes after surgery. The study used a retrospective cohort model and included 200 patients who underwent MPFL reconstruction. The only statistically significant difference between the groups with less than or equal to two dislocations and greater than two dislocations was age. Recurrent dislocations were more common in the group with greater than two dislocations, and there were significant differences in the Norwich Instability Score and COOS (Cartilage Outcome Score) between the two groups. The study has some limitations, including its retrospective design and potential uncontrolled factors. Future research may focus on patients with multiple dislocations to identify additional factors influencing the outcome of isolated MPFL reconstruction.
