Video Summary
In this video, Jim Standard presents a study on fresh osteochondral allografts and their failure rates. The study aimed to determine if a sub-rejection, rather than a fully florid immune response, may be contributing to the failures. The study used a database of failures matched with successes, and recovered tissue from 18 of the 33 failures for histology and immunohistochemistry analysis. The results showed that RH and ABO mismatches did not impact the success or failure of the grafts. However, 66% of the failures had a significant immune response. The study concluded that there is no need to match based on blood type and suggested further investigation into other factors that may contribute to failures. Techniques to minimize immune response were also suggested.
