Video Summary
In this video, the speaker discusses the use of bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) as an adjunct treatment for osteochondral graft transplantation in the knee. Previous studies have produced mixed results regarding the effectiveness of BMAC. The study aimed to further investigate the impact of pretreating grafts with BMAC on both graft integration and patient-reported outcomes. The study involved 36 patients who were randomized to receive either BMAC or a sham treatment. CT scans were performed at six months to assess graft integration, and patient-reported outcomes were obtained at six months and one year post-operation. The study found no significant differences in graft integration or patient-reported outcomes between the two groups, although the BMAC group showed a higher percentage of small cystic changes and a trend towards lower failure rates. Overall, while this study provides some support for the use of BMAC, further research is needed.
