Resource for further study - Quadriceps Tendon Versus Hamstring Tendon Autografts for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Back to course
Pdf Summary
This systematic review and meta-analysis compared the clinical and functional outcomes of using quadriceps tendon (QT) autografts versus traditional hamstring tendon (HT) autografts in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). The results showed that patients who received a QT autograft had similar outcomes to those who received an HT autograft in terms of patient-reported outcome measures, knee strength, functional hop capacity, knee laxity, graft failure, and contralateral injury. The only difference observed was that HT autografts were associated with better knee extensor strength. The study concludes that the use of QT autografts is equivalent to HT autografts in ACLR, and the choice of graft can be based on the surgeon's expertise and familiarity with the grafts. Further studies are warranted to investigate the long-term outcomes of QT autografts in ACLR.
