Pdf Summary
This systematic review and meta-analysis compared the clinical and functional outcomes of quadriceps tendon (QT) autografts and hamstring tendon (HT) autografts in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). The study reviewed 20 observational studies comprising 28,621 patients and found that patients who received a QT autograft had similar post-operative outcomes (including patient-reported outcome measures, knee strength, functional hop capacity, knee laxity, ipsilateral graft failure, and contralateral injury) compared to those who received an HT autograft. However, HT autografts were associated with better knee extensor strength. The study concluded that the use of QT autografts in ACLR was equivalent to HT autografts, and the choice of graft can be based on the surgeon's expertise and familiarity with the grafts. Further studies are warranted to investigate the long-term outcomes of QT autografts in ACLR.
