Well, it's a great honor that I get to introduce your 51st president, Mark Miller. He was born in Mesa, Arizona, grew up in Traverse Air Force Base in California, and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was an athlete through high school in his days, and there's his uniform, and notice those shorts, and we all wish we had all that hair. Mark, I wish I had that much hair right now. He graduated the Air Force Academy as a distinguished graduate and top 3%, and what I didn't know, he worked as a civil engineer for several years before going to medical school. He earned the rank of colonel, and he's a retired colonel now, and here he is pictured with his mother and father in uniform. His medical education began at the Medical School Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. He did an orthopedic residency at Wilford U.S. Air Force Medical Center in San Antonio, and he did a sports fellowship at Pittsburgh, and there he is with his mentors and his fellowship mates. Throughout his career, he's been a team physician. This began at the Air Force Academy. Most of his career while he was at UVA has been at Jackson Madison University. He's been a division head of UVA Sports Medicine, and here he is pictured with the NCAA championship from Jackson Madison, and in the named training room at UVA for him in Mark Miller Orthopedic Training Room. We all know him as a master educator for residents and fellows, and that is well clear by all of his faculty and all of the students and residents that know him very well, and here he is pictured with Vernon Mueller, another master educator, when he turned 90, and another picture of Grand Rounds in the recent year. He's probably best known as being the educator and part of the 25 years of the Miller Review course, where he was an innovator, a leader in orthopedic review courses, and who couldn't keep the audience's attention without suit jackets like that? Maybe I need to get one. He's clearly also, and what people have told me, what I learned about him, is he's clearly a master mentor too. He has worked selflessly and tirelessly and mentored not only the trainees, residents, and fellows, but also his faculty, his hired, and other people in the university, and he's very beloved for that. He's a prolific writer. He's published over 200 peer review manuscripts, and obviously he's a prolific author and edited many textbooks, and here he is pictured with probably the textbook Miller's Review of Orthopedics that we know him for. He's won many awards, a plethora of awards. I just want to highlight a few. In 2020, he's won the AOSSM George Revere Education Award. He won a Distinguished Service Award from his medical school. He's won the Virginia Orthopedic Society Lifetime Achievement Award. He's won the U.S. Air Force Resident Teaching Award, UVA Resident Teaching Award twice. He's been an AOSSM Traveling Fellow and a Godfather, and former Education Chairman of AOSSM. He's a family man. Here he is pictured doing things he loves with Ann. He's also has, they combined have six children and eight grandchildren. Here they are pictured having fun at the beach in another photograph. There's also another side that I didn't know that I learned, and that side that he really has a comical and a funny side, and I didn't know that, but here he is dressed up in costume with Ann, pretty good costumes, and here he is dressed up at his Miller Review course as Alexander Hamilton, and here he is in a band. And so that side I didn't know at all. And here he is at play. One of his favorite pastimes is golf. Here he is a beautiful striped bass fishing. Here he is riding bikes with Ann, and here he is after tubing with the Traveling Fellows. I guess they all came back okay. So finally it is with great pleasure and in my honor to introduce you Mark Miller, 51st President of AOSSM.
