Video Summary
In a study focused on elite athletes undergoing meniscus repair, researchers aimed to determine if there was a difference between all-inside and inside-out techniques for medial and lateral meniscus repairs. A retrospective review was conducted on 170 athletes classified as elite based on specific criteria. Out of the 192 repairs identified, the failure rate for medial meniscus repairs was significantly higher at 42% compared to 12% for lateral meniscus repairs. Specifically, all-inside medial meniscus repairs had the highest failure rate of 58%, while inside-out medial repairs had a failure rate of approximately 23%. Failures were more common within the first two years, with ongoing failures for all-inside medial repairs. However, it is important to note that the results may not be applicable to the general patient population and the study had inherent biases as it was retrospective and based on the senior author's personal practice.
